Don't sit too close to the TV

I was thinking about my dad tonight when I started getting a little blurry eyed while watching TV. Sometimes my contacts get dry, and after staring at a screen they start to blur. As I leaned closer to the TV, I could hear my dad’s words in my head, “Don’t get too close to the TV. You’ll lose your vision.” If you ask me, it’s a classic Catch-22. Or, chicken vs egg.

I watch a lot of TV. I mean, A LOT of TV. As an actor, I make it my business to be familiar with all of the shows running in primetime (and all of the daytime dramas too.) I only need to watch a show 2-3 times to get a sense of the tone and structure of the show, but I make an effort to watch as many NY shows as I can in any given week. I’ve been working so hard in rehearsals and with performances that I had a few weeks of shows backed up - it’s been wonderful but exhausting! For the record, here are the shows I follow each week:

NY Based Shows
Gossip Girl
The Good Wife
30 Rock
One Life to Live
White Collar
Royal Pains (on hiatus)
Law & Order/Law & Order SVU/Law & Order CI (I catch a couple of episodes a month)

Shows shot elsewhere
Grey’s Anatomy
Private Practice
Flash Forward
Eastwick (if it returns!)

Reality TV (egads!)
Project Runway
America’s Next Top Model
American Idol

Then there are the TV shows I catch because I am flipping through channels. I won’t even get into those.

No wonder I don’t have time for blogging... =)
